Flat tire.

Everyone hates getting a Flat tire. Its always inconvenient, it cost to fix, and usually leaves you on the side of the road at the worst possible time.

Yesterday Elizabeth (my wife) called me at 7:45am and informed me that she was sitting on the side of the interstate near Concord mills with a flat tire. So I said ok, good luck with that...jk jk. I rushed down to the scene where my 2001 Honda Accord sat there on the side of the interstate near exit 49. I got out looked at the tire and it wasn't flat, it was blown out! We didn't have a jack in the trunk like I thought, so we had to leave the car there and ride up to our good friend Kenny's house to borrow his jack. We got it and drove back down to change the tire and as I'm trying to get the tire off my good friend Dan comes running up the side of the interstate out no where! I pinched myself to see if I was in a dream because this morning was crazy! Turns out he was off work and on his way to get his oil changed and saw us sitting on the side of the road. Now that I think about it, we got like 3 honks....Did any of you see us?! Anyways, Dan kicked the tire a couple of times and it came right off and we got the donut put on. We drove the car up the street to Goodyear and got new front tires and alignment done. Back when we were on the side of the interstate as I was taking the tire off I noticed how bald and slick the tires were. I thought "No wonder it blew!" Elizabeth drives our Honda day to day because of her long drive to work and I had not been checking the tires for her, like I should have been. If I would have checked on them like 2 months ago I would have realized it was time for new tires. But I didn't...

I was pondering on this thought last night: If we don't keep a check on the state of our spirit's tires we will blow out! Just like our cars, we run and run and run. If we get to busy running and neglect our tires we will blow them! It WILL happen. A blow out will leave you on the side of the road, inconvenienced, set back, and you'll have a cost to pay that you just cannot afford. Thankfully Jesus, our repair man will always run to us even in our neglect of our spirit man's condition, even on the side of the road stranded. He already paid the cost for us.

He loves to redeem us and get us back on track and running again. But we have a responsibility to check daily on the state of our spirit man, this is more than a 15 minute devotional, that's your gas to go. How your tire pressure? Whats the tread looking like? Is it time for some new ones? If so, do it! But everyday check yourself so you can run the good race and win the prize but remember YOU cannot FIX it yourself. You do not have the ability, but you can allow God too. Sometimes all you need is a little REST with Jesus... Let's PREVENT the blow outs and flats! YOU HAVE A RACE TO RUN AND FINISH!

  1. As always, great insight! I had a similar problem when I went to WV last time. I couldn't get any grip on the ice and kept spinning in place. Come to find out, my tires needed rotating. Sometimes we can get stuck in slippery situations only because we haven't done our regular maintenence. SO thankful I have a BRIDEGROOM I can call on to come to my side WHENEVER I need Him. God is good. Thanks for the reminder!
